Founded in 2012 by eight childhood friends, Detroit City Distillery Tasting Room is located in the historic 19th Century Eastern Market, a large, vibrant farmers market with vendors selling everything from pirogis to locally sourced tomatoes on weekends. In the summer, Eastern Market is bustling with locals and tourists alike soaking in the ambiance and enjoying some of the best locally-inspired wall art in the region.
The distillery’s second location, The Whiskey Factory, opened in 2017, nearby at 1000 Maple st., where distillery tours take place. The 20,000 sf historic building is located in the previous site of Sroh’s ice cream manufacturing in the 1960s, and Goebels Brewing in the 1930s. Tours range from $20 to $65 and can be booked online, and event space is available.
Detroit City offers a full line of whiskies, to include their core line up of: Butcher’s Cut Bourbon, Four Grain Bourbon, and Homegrown Rye, in addition to limited release products such as their Honey Barrel Finished Bourbon, Butchers Cut Barrel Proof Single Barrel, and a Toasted Barrel.
