Prep Time: 5 minutes minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes minutes
Total Time: 48 minutes minutes
Cost: $10
Equipment
- Mixing Bowl
- Whisk
- Bacon Rack (or baking sheet)
Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 2/3 Cup Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Cup Bourbon (Preferably a sweeter expression)
- 2 lbs Thick-cut Bacon
- 1/4 Tsp Coarse Black Pepper
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
- Whisk brown sugar, maple syrup, and bourbon together in a bowl.
- Dip strips of bacon into mixture and coat thoroughly.
- Spray the wire rack of a bacon pan (or similar bacon cooking product) with non-stick spray, and lay the bacon strips down in a row across the rack. The bacon can be laid directly onto foil or baking sheet, but cook time will be shorter and the pooling glaze can start to burn, so monitor closely.
- Sprinkle coarse black pepper on the glazed bacon.
- Cook for 20 minutes. Remove the bacon from the oven, turn pieces over, brush on additional glaze from the mixture. Return to the oven for another 20 minutes. (Cook time for bacon on foil/baking sheet will be closer to 15 minutes or less a side).
- Remove from the oven. Let cool for a few minutes while bacon hardens.
- Enjoy for breakfast or as an anytime-side.
Notes
This particular bourbon candied bacon recipe is sweet and savory, and really captures a full bourbon profile. However, the trick with this dish is the cook time. Depending on what type of surface you are cooking the bacon on can impact cook time. Keep a close eye on the bacon as it cooks. Times may need to be adjusted. When it’s finished, the bacon should have a slightly burned edge, and the meat should be a beautiful color approaching mahogany.
